Median family income is typically higher than median household income because of the composition of households, which may consist of a person living alone or multiple unrelated individuals or families living together.
The median income is the dollar amount that divides the income distribution into two equal groups--half with income above the median, half with income below it. Data identified as 2023 are 5-year estimates from years 2019-2023.
